Introducing the Fictoplasm Typecast

Hi there — owing to recent concerns with the mp3 format I’m switching to the more open and accessible A4 format. My hope is to make the ‘cast more accessible to all with this move. The downside is it may need a little more screen real estate and production time, so please bear with me. I’ll probably release the ‘cast a page at a time over a few weeks. Let me know what you think

  1. Hi Ralph,

I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to write, and I’m sorry to hear about what you and your partner are going through. I have felt your absence, but I hadn’t thought to investigate until now. I listened to your year of the rabbit episode when you first released it. I loved it, completely. I identified very strongly with all the threads. I’d guess we’re around the same age. I just wanted to write to say how deeply I love Fictoplasm, your thoughtful musings on natures of tales, connections with ttrpgs / shared imaginary spaces. So thank you. if you make more episodes I will listen with my full attention. Of course if you don’t make more, or choose not to I will be very greatful for all you have made and published online thus far.

I listened to year of the rabbit again today. the first time I heard it you inspired me to order the KLF book, and Over the Edge, both of which i now have on hand. As it happens I was massively inspired by Mage 1st ed back in the day, I’ve spent the past couple of weeks trying to figure out if it’s possible to “recreate” those experiences. Reading through Mage20 was dissapointing and disheartening. I realised what I loved most was being able to paint with magic on the fly, despite the fairly rough system in 1st ed. So im going to try my own version of Mage30, some kind of homebrew mashup of the spirit of the spheres, Over the Edge, and all the psychedelic and occult weirdness I’ve absorbed in the interim.

Thank you again, really. It is rare for me to find engaging and thoughtful discourse.
No pressure is intended, the opposite in fact. I wish you and yours all the very best in health and life.

    cheers,
    Richie
